ADHD Coaching

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral disorder characterized by a combination of:

  1. Inattentiveness
  2. Distractibility
  3. Hyperactivity
  4. Impulsive behavior

As well as:

  1. Disorganization
  2. Poor relations with siblings and peers
  3. Memory problems
  4. Obsessive thinking

These additional characteristics are related to Executive Functioning Skills and this is where the Cognitive Coach can help.

The Cognitive Coach has over 25 years of experience working with people with Executive Functioning difficulties. Clients learn to recognize:

  1. Signs of information overload
  2. Maximize and work within their attention levels
  3. Break tasks down into manageable pieces
  4. Organize their work space and the tasks to be completed
  5. Utilize memory strategies effectively
  6. Improve interpersonal communication skills

They also learn the importance of keeping a balance in their life, the impact of nutrition and exercise on their level of functioning and how to set realistic expectations to reduce frustration. Family education is provided on an ongoing basis.

As they grow older, children with untreated ADHD are more prone to drug abuse, antisocial behavior and injuries. More than half of the children diagnosed continue to have symptoms through adolescence and adulthood. The Cognitive Coach can help adults as well as children with ADD/ADHD. Sessions will be focused on learning:

  1. How to use personal strengths
  2. Manage daily tasks at home and at work
  3. Set goals and create plans to achieve those goals
  4. Improve interpersonal communication skills

Education is provided to spouses and families on a regular basis and contact with teachers is maintained as requested.
